NURA'S BID FOR 2016 WORLD CADETS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP
Organized by: Ketty Nazario-Baalla
MANHATTAN OPEN MIXED-DOUBLES
August 04, 2016
EVENT DATE Oct 16, 2016
Last week, my daughter Nura received a letter from the US Chess Federation informing her that she has qualified to participate in the 2016 World Cadets Chess Championships. This prestigious event will be held in the city of Batumi (located in the country of Georgia) from October 18th to October 31st. Nura has been offered the chance to compete in the Girls Under 10 Section as a member of an elite team of chess players representing the United States. Nura was selected for this honor in recognition for her status as one of the top-rated players in her age group in the United States. If she competes, Nura would be part of a unique educational experience. More importantly, the tenacity and effort that brought Nura this honor serves as an example for children, like her, who are deaf or hard of hearing. Everything IS possible for our children! In order to take advantage of this incredible opportunity and because US Chess Federation will not provide financial assistance for Nura to attend the championships, she must rely on the support of her community, family and friends. Our goal is to raise a total of $17,000 to cover expenses such as: US Chess Federation fee; FIDE (World Chess Organization) fee; hotel accommodations for Nura and her chaperone; meals for Nura and her chaperone; round trip airfare for Nura and her chaperone; applicable traveling and visa fees; coaching fees and salary. To Nura’s teachers, coaches, educational staff, her chess teammates and their families, family and friends, thank you for being with Nura every step of the way!
