BENEFITING: LMSARCOMA DIRECT RESEARCH FOUNDATION
Nurses Working Not Wishing for the Cause (NursesWNW) is supporting an organization called LMSarcoma Direct Research Foundation (LMSdr). Founded in 2006, the mission of LMSdr is to assure the development of the means to cure and control the disease known as Leiomyosarcoma (LMS. LMSdr utilizes volunteers so money raised will go directly to research and not the salaries of CEO’s, Presidents, and Administrators.
Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) is a very rare, aggressive and unpredictable cancer of the smooth muscle. There are no clear causes identified. By the time this cancer is diagnosed it has spread. It can be quiet for a long time, and then erupt after 20 years. It is also a resistant cancer, which means it is not very responsive to chemotherapy or radiation.
Some of the research grants LMSdr sponsored include the very important break through research from Stanford University on the anti CD47 antibody (Flipping the Script on Macrophages). Studying Sarcoma makes sense. Due to it’s smaller DNA structure, a cure for this type of Sarcoma could mean a cure for other types of cancer such as breast, lung, colon, and so forth. Not the other way around. Most people do not know this.
NursesWNW has two BIG events during the month of November. The NY Marathon on November 3. And, a Party Night at the Black Bear Saloon on November 11 at 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. There is a $30.00 cover charge and the 50/50 raffle will be drawn that evening.
