I will be joining a team of 150 strong on May 20th for the Annual Bay to Breakers race and partnering with the 104 Girls of Daraja in Kenya to raise money to support the new class of 2012. I am convinced that these girls will change lives -- their own as well as those of their communities and their country. I will be partnering with a wonderful girl named Faith.
Please consider making a contribution to support these wonderful girls -- your gift will provide access to education for an exceptional and promising young woman who has no other way to get it...join us and make a difference to someone special! PLEASE Check out our video and see what makes Daraja so special!
Faith lives just 15 minutes from Daraja Academy. She attended the local primary
school there where she was 1 of 50 students in a classroom. She worked exceptionally hard and became the top ranked girl in her class. She lives with her mother who is a subsistence farmer and sells her produce at the local market. Due to the drought conditions in Kenya, Faith’s family struggles to keep food on the table as well as earn any income as the rains failed to come in March and the family lost their crop. The only option for high school for Faith was a school she would have had to travel over 12 miles per day on foot, leaving no time for studying. Faith applied to Daraja Academy and was immediately accepted. She is a brilliant girl who remains in the top
5 ranking of her classmates.
Faith is always willing to help where she can. She is often seen wiping the tables in the dining hall, picking up a pen another student had dropped, and smiling while she participates in her chores. She has a quick smile and a ready laugh.
She is currently in her senior year and has proven to be an all-star in her class. She is quick and confident in taking leadership positions. She is someone many of the
students look up to.
Thank you! Educated Girls will Change the World!
