EVENT DATE: Apr 01, 2014
Help us end malnutrition among Bolivia's women and children! We work alongside Bolivian non-profit leaders, Bolivian hospital and medical staff, and Emory University professors to create sustainable and impactful nutrition education workshops for young mothers in El Alto, Bolivia, empowering them to fight malnutrition in their own families.
We are fundraising $10,000 to expand our nutrition education workshop to over 400 mothers. Your donation will improve the physical and mental development of Bolivian children by giving their mothers a relevant educational opportunity in nutrition.
Despite many advances, malnutrition still plagues Bolivia. Malnutrition's impact lies especially heavy on the country's mothers and youth. 1 out of 3 children are shorter than average for their age. 1 out of 3 women of reproductive age are overweight. 3 out of 5 Bolivian children suffer from anemia, a disease that results from a lack of healthy blood cells. These effects of malnutrition weight heavily on the daily lives of Bolivia's women and children, slowing physical and mental development and leaving them vulnerable to other diseases. The cause of malnutrition in Bolivia can be traced to a lack of access to and knowledge of nutrients that are necessary for healthy growth.
Our team will be providing workshops to over 400 Bolivian mothers on how to prevent malnutrition in their families. The workshops will focus on providing quick, nutritious, and tasty meals for a family, different types of nutrients, and the consequences of obesity and nutrient deficiencies. We have done one round of successful workshops and are fundraising to expand our work!
