“Two hundred years—twenty long decades of U-M history—and for most of them you’ve called yourself ‘The Wolverines.’

Explain to me how that makes sense? When is the last time you saw a wolverine in the State of Michigan? It’s almost as ridiculous as naming yourself after a nut, or a bunch of people in Indiana calling themselves Irish. This is the company you keep when you call yourselves ‘Wolverines.’

I say no more. For too long we have watched from the treetops while this university disgraces the proud sons and daughters of its many fine lawns.
It’s time that this land’s native masters received their due.

I’m Stan the Squirrel, and I want to be your mascot.”
