Photography has been at the center of my life since I first stepped into a darkroom at summer camp when I was 9. The darkroom provided solace through my teen years and helped me find my voice in college. Now my career and most of my friendships revolve around the medium.
But not everyone is so lucky to be an upper-middle-class kid who goes to summer camp or a fancy suburban high school with access to equipment. NYC SALT is a stellar organization that provides both photography education from professional volunteers (like me!) and college prep to underserved teens. 100% of NYC SALT’s participants have graduated from high school and been accepted to college, and 89% of college students are on track to graduate. These kids are as talented as they are committed, and they deserve every opportunity to pursue photography.
If we raise $32,000 by December 31st, an anonymous donor will make a $40,000 matching gift. For every $1,000 we can supply one student with the equipment they need to participate. Your donation will help enable our students to receive an equal opportunity for higher education and successful careers, and provide an amplifier for kids who need a voice.
