It's almost time for me to run and you've still got time to donate!
March 17, 2017
BENEFITING: Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York
ORGANIZER: Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York
EVENT DATE: Mar 19, 2017
It's that time of year - time to raise some money and raise the roof by storming down the streets of Manhattan in the United Airlines New York City Half Marathon! On March 19, 2017, I'm running the NYC half as part of a team to raise money for the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York. After a cycling accident left me with epilepsy as a result of a major head injury, my goal is to pay homage to my family, friends, doctors, and caregivers who have all played a part in helping me become *me* again by raising money for the Epilepsy Foundation. My husband will also be running (on his birthday!!) in support of me and EFMNY, journeying alongside just as he went step by step with me in my accident recovery and seizures resulting from the head trauma. I remain fortunate to have epilepsy that is very well controlled, allowing me to pursue athletic challenges and all of life's other adventures. I've also been blessed with a spouse who supports and encourages (even participates with!) me in these endeavors. A lot of people are still in the dark about epilepsy unless they or someone they know has it, and many are fearful of those who have seizures. I want to show them it's nothing to be afraid of, it is simply a part of life for many people and does not define or limit them in any way. Through EFMNY I've gotten to know others with epilepsy and their caregivers who have all enlightened me about the fear and struggle of daily life where seizures aren't easily controlled, and seen firsthand how the folks at EFMNY pour their hearts and souls into providing services and funding research into better treatments and therapies in an effort to help patients lead full and fulfilling lives. In 2017 instead of just talking the talk about the wonderful services of EFMNY, I'm going to do something to help them provide more programs and opportunities by running and raising money in the NYC half marathon.
If you've made it through my rambling story and still have a moment to waste please consider gifting yourself some feel-good vibes by making a donation, every cent counts and will be greatly appreciated.
With love and deepest gratitude,
