ORGANIZER: Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York
EVENT DATE: Mar 19, 2017
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page! As many of you know, I have Epilepsy. I was diagnosed when I was 18 years old, after having my first seizure. The cause of my Epilepsy is unknown and there is no cure for this disease. While I've struggled through the years, adjusting to meds, losing driving priveledges and missing work at times, I am fortunate that my seizures are mostly controlled by my medication formula. This does not discount the fact that my diagnosis has caused fear, anxiety and depression for me and my family members. With every seizure episode, I am confused, scared, sore and tired. I am grateful for my doctors, my family and my friends who all help to make it easier to cope and move on with life. Even though I was once very stubborn about taking my meds, I am now very grateful for my medication regimen that is working!
Epilepsy can be extremely debilitating for some people, keeping them out of work and/or unable to live alone. There are at least 1 million people in the United States living with uncontrolled epilepsy, which means there is still an urgent need for more research, better treatments and a cure.
On March 19th, I will be running the NYC Half Marthon in order to help raise funds for the EFMNY. We NEED to find a cure and this is where we start! It's my mission to rise above my diagnosis and keep moving towards a cure. Raising money for The EFMNY will help us get more answers, more support, better treatments and eventually a cure!
I've accepted my diagnosis and will use it to make a difference in the lives of everyone living with epilepsy and to raise awareness for this disease. I am also running this race in honor of a special little angel who has been affected by epilepsy since birth. She has an amazing family who have provided her with a beautiful life. Her entire family is strong and brave and they're an incredible inspiration to everyone around them. When I get tired during the race, this little angel will give me the inspiration I need to get across that finish line!
I thank you for taking the time to visit my page and read my story. On behalf of everyone living with epilepsy, I thank you for your donation!
