I was fortunate to "win the lottery" and am participating in this weekends ING NYC Marathon.
It's hard to be too excited now watching the news stories and seeing the effects of Sandy that have devestated the area. I've decided to challenge my FB and LinkedIn friends and connections to see how much I can fundraise for the Red Cross to assist with relief efforts from Sandy. I can't imagine what I'll see (assuming I'll get my flight on Friday) and this will allow me to "give back" to NYC for an event that I'm sure will still be amazing. Right now they don't even know how we will get to the start line b/c one of the main transportation spots (out of Staten Island Ferry) is completely flooded still. But I keep hearing of the resiliency and determination of the people in the Big Apple.
If I can get 10 friends to donate $26.20 ($1 dollar for each mile of the marathon) I'll reach my goal!
If you can't donate...please just keep on doing what you're doing and pray for the recovery efforts from Sandy and keep all the runners in your thoughts on Sunday morning!
