BENEFITING: AMERICA SCORES NY
EVENT DATE: Apr 16, 2016
Through the annual industry tournament and a growing list of activities throughout the year, NYFEST endeavors to highlight and deepen the unique relationship between the creative community and game of soccer -- in New York City and around the world -- giving, where possible, to organizations that champion youth development in the areas of sport and the arts, like this year's beneficiary, America SCORES New York.
As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, NYFEST relies, in part, on the support and generosity of the community it represents. All funds raised for NYFEST through this Crowdrise campaign will go directly to America SCORES New York and is tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
America SCORES New York is a year-round after-school program consisting of soccer, poetry and service learning. Its mission is to inspire urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. America SCORES New York partners with 12 public elementary and middle schools in West Harlem and Washington Heights, impacting over 450 students in 3rd to 8th grade each year.
HOW WILL YOUR DONATION IMPACT THE YOUTH OF NYC?
America SCORES New York has a waitlist of public schools in its core communities of Harlem and Washington Heights who desperately need high-quality after-school programming – please help them add these schools!

WHY SOCCER AND POETRY?
Soccer tends to distribute reward and responsibility evenly among team members, which is an ideal partner to our team poetry and service learning workshops, emphasizing self-awareness and collaboration through writing and discussion. Soccer tends to act as the hook for engaging students in school and in our creative writing and community service projects, creating "poet-athletes" who are dedicated to school, each other and the community.
