The Nicaragua group has landed!

After a FULL day of air travel they made it to Minagua last night and stayed at a motel across the way from the airport. This pic is of their See More

THE STORY:

Nope, I'm not going, but I am sending 20 students. They will spend their winter and spring breaks working to build homes in Nicaragua and help communities in the Dominican Republic. In the DR, they will make home repairs on people's homes, so they can keep what they have. They will also work with youth to learn new skills. In Nicaragua, the group will build a home from scratch. Why would they do this, you ask? Because they work to help communities locally, and they want to extend their reach. What happens afar affects us nearby, and vice versa. I'm not asking my friends and family to just give me dough to help them cover the out of pocket costs to go do this hard work. I'm offering an opportunity to my friends and family who would love to be a part of this, but who can't physically go, be a part of this work. It takes a village - or so I heard some woman say, one time. We need help, advice, emotional and financial support, and general good will. The last time I sent students abroad to work on water issues, the students met a grandmother taking care of her grandkids in a home with the roof flapping off of it. They wanted to grab tools and fix it, but they couldn't because they weren't permitted to. This time, they can. If you can share some construction, cultural, philanthropic, or community building tips with this group of students, that would be phenomenal. If you can contribute financially, you will get a Facebook update directed at you showing you where your dollars went and a handwritten report from the group. We need a mindful collective to achieve our goal. It costs $2500 per student, and most if not all are saving every cent to go - you needn't be wealthy to go. They will hold fundraisers and solicit companies for support. Those who know me, know that this work is not charity for me. It's just what ought to be done. I've been blessed so many times in my life. Call it karma. We all need a little help once in a while and luckily for my family and friends, we have each other. No everyone has the same. Join us!
