BENEFITING: Immune Deficiency Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2011
In return for the amazing support, services, advocacy and information provided by the Immune Deficiency Foundation (IDF) http://bit.ly/nu1V5R and to honor our two children challenged with Common Variable Immune Deficiency, I want to raise donations for and awareness of this organization.
For those who may not know, Barb and I have been blessed with two beautiful boys, Edward (15) and Ethan (10). Several years ago Edward was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition known as Common Variable immune Deficiency. He began treatment with the IV infusion of immuno-globulin in order to boost his immune system to better help him fight infections and viruses that you and I so commonly brush off. Some time with this method of infusion led us to seek alternatives and we now infuse him (subcutaneously) at home every weekend. This is a life-long condition. http://bit.ly/qYtjtV
Chronic health problems with our youngest, Ethan, recently led us down the same path and he will begin home infusion within the next few weeks. We are among the lucky that have insurance to help defray the cost of this treatment but, as you know, insurance doesn't pay for everything. Treatment for patients with this condition can expect bills from $10,000-$40,000 PER MONTH.
We discovered the IDF later in our journey than I would have liked and have been amazed at the support, research, information and advocacy that this small group of dedicated folks have made available to individuals, caretakers, doctors, etc. involved with primary immune conditions.
It is the hope of Barbra, Edward, Ethan and myself that we can meet our fundraising goal and in some small way, give back to this organization that has done so much for so many.
