I grew up in Long Island City. I could see the 59th Street Bridge from my window. When I was younger I ran on the Women Colgate team. I was a great runner too. One day I was competing in a cross country race, my sister as well, a girl passing me told me my sister was lost. I dropped out the race and never completed it nor competed in anything that involved running again. It has always been my dream to run the NYC Marathon, Always.
I have long forgotten about that dream, until one day I saw this woman on Oprah. Her Name is Tererai Trent. This women will never know how much she moved me with her story, like no one has ever done in my life( besides my Ma & Grandmum). Tererai wrote her dreams into existence all the way to PHD
So since I’ve decided to run the 2011 ING New York City Marathon I decided to run for a charity and thats this amazing organization called Team for Kids .Team for Kids is a team of adult runners who raise funds for critical services provided by New York Road Runners Youth Programs. These programs combat childhood obesity and empower youth development via running and character-building programs in low-income schools and community centers throughout New York City, around the country, and in South Africa.
These kids have dreams too, and I am running to fulfill mine and to support theirs
