Hi and thank you for visting my page!
This is my second year running the Boston Marathon for 15-40 Connection. Last year, I set out with a goal of raising $5,000 and ended up raising over $6,200. This year I hope to beat that goal and raise at least $7,500 for this worthy organization.
What is 15-40 Connection?
Approximately 40% of the US population will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. 15-40 Connection is teaching people how to detect cancer early with their 3 Steps Detect program. They educate people on how to recognize early warning signs of cancer and how to work with doctors. Your support will help deliver 3 Steps Detect education to schools, universities and community organizations. Everyone should know how to notice health changes and what to do when they occur.
Why am I running for 15-40 Connection?
Everyone knows someone who has either overcome, is struggling with, or has lost a courageous battle to cancer. Anything I can do to help lessen that number is worth it. This organization helps do just that by stressing the importance of early detection.
Just a few days after confirming my spot on the 15-40 marathon team again, my mom got a call from her doctor saying that her routine mammogram indicated an early form of breast cancer. This news obviously shook all of us, because when you hear cancer you assume the worst. Luckily, since they caught the cancer so early, she was able to have surgery to remove the affected area right away and will start radiation shortly, hopefully not even needing to recieve chemo. This news could have been so much worse, but early detection gave her a good prognisis.
Last January, my grandfather passed away due to complications from esophageal cancer. Shortly after his death, I received my bib for my first Boston Marathon. I ran with him as my motivation. My Grampa is still a huge part of that motivation for Boston 2018, now along with my mom as she overcomes her own diagnosis.
Of course these are just two personal examples of the effects cancer can have. There are so many others out there struggling with the same disease. To know I am making a difference in the fight against cancer makes the hard work of training and running the marathon all worth it.
Please consider donating to my page for the 2018 Boston Marathon. This education is lifesaving and you can help.
