It's true! I'm training for the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon this October. I have chosen to participate as a member of Team Lynn Sage and fundraise for breast cancer research.
The Lynn Sage Foundation was established in honor and memory of Lynn Sage by her family, who tragically died at the age of 39 as a result of her battle with breast cancer. Dedicated to finding a cure for this disease, The Lynn Sage Foundation focuses on promising young researchers with a novel approach to breast cancer. A Chicago based non-profit, The Foundation provides two-year scholarships to talented doctors early in their career, when research dollars are the most difficult to source. In 2018, The Lynn Sage Foundation is funding three Scholars at Northwestern and Rush Universities.
Running the Chicago Marathon has always been a personal goal of mine and 2018 couldn't be a more perfect year to finally (hopefully!) cross the finish line. But running with team Lynn Sage is more than just achieving that goal. Growing up in the suburbs of Chicago, a local foundation like The Lynn Sage that supports breast cancer research here in Chicago is really what hit home for me. The two most important women and role models in my life, my grandma and my mom, both battled the fight against breast cancer. In 2000, my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a single mastectomy. A few years later, in 2004 my mom was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and fought through radiation and chemotherapy. They both fought hard and never gave up. It's because of their strength that I'm able to say they are both survivors and breast cancer free. It's women (and men) like my grandma and mom that have battled or are currently battling this horrible disease that I plan to run for on October 7th, 2018.
Please help me achieve my fundraising goal. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and see you at the finish line! Xoxo
