Get in the best shape of my life while helping kids in hospitals at the same time? Easiest decision I've ever made.
I had no idea at the time that I signed up for the 2017 Chicago Marathon that it would wind up being one of, if not the best decision I've ever made. This year, I'm upping the ante a bit.
Rather than run just one October marathon to raise awareness and money for kids in hospitals, I have decided to run TWO October marathons to raise awareness and money for kids in hospitals -- Chicago in early October and then Marine Corps in Washington, DC at the end of October. Why? Because I want to spread Open Heart Magic's message of healing through the power of magic as far as possible, because me running 50+ miles is a long way to go but the least I can do if it means helping more kids in more hospitals. The bottom line -- I get in better physical shape, more volunteers are able to bring more smiles to more kids, we all win.
Open Heart Magic's volunteer hospital magicians bring magic to thousands of kids in hospitals in Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Cleveland every year by teaching them how to do magic tricks. Something as simple as learning how to do a magic trick brings light into these kids' -- and their families' -- lives during what is one of the most terrifying times for all involved. This cause is very much a personal one for me, and knowing that every mile I run helps us help more kids in more hospitals makes it a lot easier to get out of bed and go for a run first thing in the morning.
The funds raised by the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Team will help us recruit and train more Volunteer Hospital Magicians and purchase the supplies our volunteers need, including the ones given to each young patient as they learn to perform a trick of their very own. Your donation will bring magic and smiles to thousands of children and their families, right when and where they need it the most.
