Your steps support their steps. This year 15 members will stretch, run, persevere and complete the 2018 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of reachwithin, a program of the Bartholomew J. Lawson Foundation and Windward Islands Research and Education Foundation. The strength, resiliency and joy of a marathon mirrors the steps children take in their lives when recovering from abuse or abandonment. With a safety-net and support, children can heal and achieve their own goals. With awareness, education and our shared voices we can end the epidemic of child abuse.
Working across the lifespan, reachwithin serves children, adolescents and young adults who have experienced extreme trauma including: neglect, physical, sexual or emotional abuse. This maltreatment impedes physical, psychological and spiritual well-being. Without a safety-net, the effects of childhood trauma grow into the local community. Our therapeutic programs support infants and children living in residential care homes and teens living in transitional living quarters or on the street. Our educational programs aim to improve caregiver competency and increase awareness of the long-term psychological, physical, and societal effects of abuse and neglect.
Our partner stakeholders include governmental agencies and community leaders, all working to advocate for the elemental right of security and safety of vulnerable children. We thank each and every one of you for joining us and supporting the healing of vulnerable children.
reachwithin currently works in Grenada, West Indies in honor of Barthlomew J. Lawson with plans to replicate programs for the Carribbean region and beyond.
