In 1998, I ran my first Boston Marathon. I did it to prove to myself I could. Since then, I have always followed and loved the Boston Marathon: who was runnning, who won, what was the weather on that day, etc. In April 2013, after 15 years of living away, we were moving out of our home in Toronto to return to Massachusetts. When tragedy struck on 4/15/13, we immediately started wondering who we knew that might be running to see if they were ok. We never considererd that our college friends would be on the sidelines and that their family would be changed forever. We felt helpless. What could we do to help? In December 2013, we found out that Bill and Denise were forming a charity in honor of Martin. We learned that to raise money, they had formed a charity running team for the very marathon that changed their lives. I knew at that moment, if they could find the strength to turn this tragedy into a message of peace and mission of kindness, then I could lace up my sneakers and run again.Every year since then, I have run as a member of Team MR8. I am not fast, but I am always determined and will finish...no matter what! Please join me again for this journey as I run the Newport and Providence Marathons and consider a donation of $26.20 to help promote peace and kindness through the charitable mission of the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation INC.
