Hello everyone! Thank you for visiting my CrowdRise page! I have been provided with the opportunity to run my first Boston Marathon with Golf Fights Cancer on April 15, 2019! GFC is a non-profit organization that calls on the passion and generosity of golfers (and non-golfers, alike!) to raise funds for cancer-related organizations. Donations benefit cancer patients and their families by providing equipment, services, and/or amenities to improve treatment options and provide comfort during the treatment process.
This organization’s mission caught my attention following the passing of my uncle, Charlie Crowley, over the summer. Charlie uprooted from our hometown of Weymouth after college to become the full-time manager of Bar Harbor Golf Course in Maine. A number of years later, in 2012, he was diagnosed with throat cancer at which time he had to return home for treatment at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. As soon as he could, Charlie returned to the place he loved with his dogs. Unfortunately on July 15, 2018, Charlie passed away unexpectedly while working at the golf course due to a cardiac event, at the age of 59. In the weeks after his passing, our family came to learn the extent of Charlie’s generosity throughout his life; always making his donations anonymously and with little fanfare.
It is an honor to run on behalf of Charlie, as well as so many other selfless golfers, family members, and friends that we have lost too soon as a result of cancer and related complications-including Mike Giannattasio, Susie Acanfora, and Dave "Stokesy" Stokes. It’s an honor to run on behalf of those we love who are currently undergoing cancer treatment, yet continue to put the needs of their loved ones first. And it’s an honor to run for those whose lives can be meaningfully extended as a result of improvements in cancer research and treatment.
Please join me in my fundraising efforts to exceed a personal goal of $10,000 as I join a group of 14 runners to reach a collective goal of $200,000 for Golf Fights Cancer. Please share names and stories of your favorite golfers, family members, and friends who have been impacted by cancer---as they are my motivation through this journey!!
I look forward to sharing this opportunity with you all.
With love and appreciation,
