Lions Clubs throughout the world were asked to “Take On” diabetes through service projects that support diabetes awareness, education, prevention, detection, and control. That’s a big ask for the Middlebury Lions Club in Vermont! We started looking around locally and found parentingdiabetickids.com and SLAM T1Dpractically in our own back yard up north in Essex.. Making the decision to partner with SLAM T1D was easy, convincing my club members (average age on the high side of 65) to field a team…that was a challenge. Who doesn’t want to have fun? Middlebury Lions will field a WIFFLE ball team and if they happen to look like our kids or grandkids or local high school and college players… it’s all about fun, education and “Taking On” diabetes. We hope you will join our team too.
Let’s be clear – our club wants to help locally first. SLAM T1D started and continues to fund the Vermont Overnight Camp for kids with T1D, in partnership with the highly recognizable Barton Center for Diabetes Education. We want to conduct education and outreach. SLAM T1D is already making a difference in Vermonters lives through educational programs; peer-to-peer support; and mentoring opportunities for T1Ders of all ages. Middlebury Lions Club support of SLAM T1D is our best method to maximize the impact of our efforts against this horrible disease. Please join our team and together we will make an even bigger impact!
