I have seen firsthand how devastating child abuse can be. At a very young age, I faced a crisis and did not know how to deal with the event, or whom to reach out too. Telling my parents or siblings was not an option because I felt it would destroy my family. For many years, I carried this burden, and at the age of nineteen, I finally reached out to someone. Through services similar to those offered by The Sacramento Children’s Home, I found a therapist. After two years of learned self-help techniques, I became stronger and realized that what had happened to me was not my fault! With the help of organizations like the Sacramento Children’s Home, many children and young adults would not be able to have hope for a healthy and thriving future.
