Our story began on April 15, 2013 at the Boston Marathon...in the blink of an eye our world changed forever...
A Leg Forever Charitable Foundation was established a year after the marathon bombings in 2014 by Elizabeth Norden, Mother of JP and Paul Norden, who each lost a leg in the 2nd explosion.
The Boston Marathon bombings changed the lives of many families that tragic day. Two hundred sixty-nine innocent bystanders were injured, 17 people lost limbs and 5 lost their lives as a result of that day.
JP and Paul Norden each lost their right legs during the second explosion; JP losing the lower half of his leg, Paul losing his leg above the knee. The brothers both came close to losing their lives. JP made it to the hospital with only a pint of blood barely remaining in his body. Paul was placed in a coma for 7 days while his body fought to stay alive.
The Norden family’s situation, although horrific, was also blessed with a tremendous amount of love, prayer and support of caring individuals from all over the world who reached out to lend a helping hand when their family needed it the most. Amputees from near and far came forward to show support and share their stories of healing and encouragement. Public donations and the One Fund enabled JP and Paul access to the best prosthetic limbs available and for that the Norden family is forever grateful.
For these reasons and many more A Leg Forever Charitable Foundation was created. The Norden Family aims to share the knowledge they have gained through this experience with the public and pay it forward.
Funds raised by the foundation enable us to assist other families with donations towards bedside care, prosthetic limbs and adaptive changes to their lifestyles that insurance often does not cover.
Did you know prosthetic limbs can range from $25,000 to $140,000 plus?
Did you know a new limb is needed every 3 to 5 years for the remainder of life?
Did you know that there are various prosthetic limbs for running, golfing, swimming?
Did you know that health insurance only covers a portion of the prosthetic and the amputee has to worry about covering the rest of the bill? Ask yourself this question. Could you live with one pair of shoes for your entire life? Well amputees need additional limbs to help them adapt to their new way of life too!
Help us spread awareness of these and many other challenges amputees face. With your support we can all make a difference in the lives of amputees TOGETHER!
"A Leg Forever, Inc." is an all volunteer, Non-profit 501c3 public charity based out of Stoneham, Massachusetts 02180.
Our journey has been amazing over the last 5 years...we have been blessed to meet so many wonderful people from all over the world that will remain long lasting friends.
Our family has grown since that tragic day...and this foundation has allowed us the opportunity to pay it forward and help others in many ways which means the world to us!
Over the last 5 years A Leg Forever, Inc. has disbursed $165,000.00 in funds assisting 17 amputees in need. Family, friends and supporters such as yourselves are the ones who have made this possible and we couldn’t be more proud!
This year A Leg Forever Charitable Foundation will have a team of 10 Runners in the 2019 Boston Marathon. Our runners are committed to our cause, and dedicated to making a difference along with us. We hope you will support them as they run the 26.2 miles from Hopkinton to Boston on April 15, 2019.
