I am starting this fundraiser not only in hope to educate the public but also to help the families who are going through this hard battle fighting cancer and the financial burden. The American Cancer Society estimated in 2014 over 16,000 kids, aged new born up to 19 years of age will be diagnosed with some type of cancer. That means 1 in 285 will be diagnosed. With the treatments and medicine we have today, that makes a big difference, the survival rate has increased over the last 40 years from 10 percent up to 90 percent with some cancers. For some children though they have to have multiple treatments to survive; surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy, which could cause long-term problems later on in life. The cost of treatment is outrageously expensive. An average hospital stay for a child runs around $40,000, children with leukemia ranges about $55,700. Every little bit of donations will go straight to families and their medical bills. We may not be able to find a cure right this second but taken the financial burden away from even one family makes a world of difference in their eyes.
