Your generous donations will go towards helping the San Francisco disabled community participate in local Bay Area running events by covering Athlete registration fees, transportation, specialized gear, and equipment. Visit our chapter at https://www.achillessf.org/ for more information.
The mission of Achilles International is to enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream running events in order to promote personal achievement.
While our programs focus on running, the truth is, running is simply the tool for accomplishing our main objective: to bring hope, inspiration, and the joys of achievement to all.
People join Achilles for many reasons and with many goals: to improve physical strength; to build confidence or to help someone achieve their dream, and all of our members and volunteers work hard to achieve them. But something else happens at Achilles that few expect, but everyone cherishes. It is the sense of friendship, encouragement, and community that people find with Achilles. In training and racing together, disabled and able-bodied athletes learn to support each other and focus on what brings them together, rather than what might keep them apart.
Specialized programs include the Achilles Freedom Team which serves wounded military personnel and veterans; Achilles Kids which provides training, race opportunities, and an in-school program for children with disabilities; Achilles Chapter workouts, plus our signature race Hope & Possibility ® which takes place in several cities worldwide. Achilles International brings the largest field of athletes with disabilities (AWD) to the TCS NYC Marathon and is the recognized authority in shaping AWD divisions in marathons nationwide.
