In summer of 2012 my mother, Elaine R. Bain, died from colon cancer. That fall I ran the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank International Half Marathon for Team DetermiNation, the American Cancer Society, and raised almost $25,000 in her memory.
Since then her only brother--my godfather--was also diagnosed with colon cancer. Their mother (my Nana) a colon cancer survivor, recently died. Though I am slower than turtles walking through peanut butter, I'm returning to the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank International Half Marathon with DetermiNation. I'm also one of the two inaugural race ambassadors leading the second class of Freep Marathon Ambassadors.
