Make Home Ownership Possible for Families With Limited Incomes
Buying a home is a big decision and a complex process for everyone, but it's even more stressful and often unattainable for families with limited incomes. There are many benefits to home ownership — in addition to creating a safe, sustainable, affordable house, homeownership can change a family’s financial outlook. According to a University of Tennessee study, children of homeowners are more likely to finish high school (and twice as likely to graduate from college), and they are 59 percent more likely to become homeowners themselves, creating upward mobility for families. Saving for a down payment on a tight budget; combined with a lack of affordable mortgage products for families with barriers, means homeownership can be unfathomable for those with low income who are paying irrecoverable rent, and even more difficult to imagine if there are dependents involved. Families need a house they can call their home, but such a reality is often too far beyond reach.
Through homebuyer counseling, real estate services, home rehab coaching and loans and grants for home repairs, ACTS Housing is making homeownership attainable for all. By transforming previously foreclosed and dilapidated homes into clean, safe, and desirable residences, ACTS families are revitalizing the City of Milwaukee. ACTS Housing is a full-service organization making transformational change through homeownership.
Since its start, ACTS Housing has supported more than 2,500 families in purchasing their own homes. More than 860 foreclosures have been reclaimed, and over $138 million has been invested into the city of Milwaukee.
