AKTIV Against Cancer
Family and Friends,
This year Team Hagedorn will be crossing the start line of the 122nd Boston Marathon this year on April 16th, with AKTIV Against Cancer. AKTIV Against Cancer is working to ensure physical activity will become an integral part of cancer treatment for the betterment of those affected by cancer, and as a deterrent against cancer. We will run the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon again (so you don’t have too) to raise money to continue the battle against cancer.
AKTIV Against Cancer was founded by Norwegian national icon and nine-time New York City Marathon champion, Grete Waitz, and Helle Aanesen in Norway in 2007. After donating more than $14M and helping to create 15 physical activity centers in cancer treatment facilities throughout Norway, AKTIV Against Cancer established its official presence in the United States in 2014.
We will be running in the memory of our close friend, Kevin Dully, and the many others that have been affected by cancer. Kevin began his battle with leukemia in the Spring of 1992, and underwent a bone marrow transplant that Fall. After a second transplant and remission, Kevin beat all expectations, but lost his battle from complications resulting from the transplants on September 20th, 2012. Kevin’s mantra was to never give up, always push a little harder, do more than you think you can, stay focused on your goals, always stay positive, and have faith in the people around you. Kevin is our inspiration.
Our goal as part of Team AKTIV is to raise over $6,000 to continue to help make a significant difference in the lives of the thousands of others that have been affected by cancer. We are also running in memory of Emilia Cardenas, Jay Zeiger, Emily Spivey, Michael Fallon and Janet Byrnes and in honor of Tim Deane, and our friends, and friends of friends that we have come to know that have also been affected by cancer.
This year Team Hagedorn will have a combined 23 years running the Boston Marathon in the fight against cancer. It is your support and generosity through those years that has contributed greatly in the battle against cancer. It is that kind of support that gets us up and out the door for the long runs on Saturday mornings that will help prepare us for our 26.2 mile run. Training in the New England winters, running thru the best Mother Nature can throw at us is always a bit of a challenge. We are always warmed and driven by the spirit and support of our family, friends and colleagues.
The support and generosity that you have shown Kevin, his family and the others the past 15 years has been exceptional. Thank you so very much for your support in fighting these diseases. If you are able to make a donation, please follow the instructions on the website. All amounts are greatly appreciated and put to a great use.
