By now I am sure that most everyone has heard about what has happened in Japan, the earthquake, the tsunami, the power plant issues.
Half a million people are in shelters now. Tens, possibly hundreds of thousands of people unaccounted for.
More than 275 aftershocks, magnitude 5 or higher.
The stores are closing with nothing to stock their shelves with, many are
still without electricity and water.
Personally, I love Japan and its people, it is my home away from home, my family overseas. It breaks my heart to see this happening, and kills me a little inside every day that I can not be there to help in other ways.
I'm seeing groups and communities all over the place showing up to show their support for Japan, but clicking that "Like" button, it isn't going to help anyone. Reposting a message that someone else posted in order to show your support will not give someone in a shelter a blanket, or food. It will not help keep those search and rescue groups going.
I can no longer just sit and watch, and since I am unable to actually go there and help in a physical manner, I have decided to begin this fundraising project, "A Little Something More." "A Little Something More" is for all of us who have seen and joined a group, reposted a message, or clicked a "Like" button on something and wanted it to actually help someone. This is where you can actually give "A Little Something More" than a click or a brief thought about something, and really make a difference.
All donations made to "A Little Something More" will go to Network for Good.
If you have donation questions, please see this link: http://www.crowdrise.com/about/faq#donation
There are transaction fees(http://www.crowdrise.com/about/terms#fees), but I don't think any actual charity is able to give 100% of the donated funds, they have to stay open! Unless you actually go to Japan with a bag of cash, I don't think it can be avoided, then again, if you can go to Japan with a bag of cash to give away, why are you even reading this???
As a bonus, Crowdrise has donation promotions and contests if you donate specific amounts, to specific projects, or donate and email them special codes.
My current favorite promotion is:
"Win an Apple iPod Nano
Donate either $16 or $26 to any Project or Charity by March 31, 2011 and you'll be signed up to win."
Drawing for the iPod will be held on April 8th, 2011. I do not have anything to do with the drawing, it is held by Crowdrise, the people hosting this page.
My personal thanks goes out to everyone who donates or if you can not donate, at least help to share "A Little Something More" with others, perhaps they can make donations in your name!
I have little of my own to offer, but will still be the first to give. I couldn't really expect anyone else to if I were not willing!
If you've managed to read this far, that's great! Now lets see just how big a little something can become!
