Amelia is a very special 10 year old who enjoys the outdoors and getting involved with community activities. Amelia loves the warm months in Wisconsin because she gets to go on hikes and bike rides with mom, dad and little sister. Amelia's autism poses some challenges for motor planning when it comes to riding a bike. We have tried tag alongs and other typical bikes but, unfortunately, pedaling and maintaining her upper body upright are no easy tasks for her; Amelia needs an adaptive bike. One of the goals of Amelia's therapy has been learning to ride an adaptive bike. Amelia gets so excited about going to therapy to ride. Also, Amelia is a lot more intentional these days about letting us know that she really longs for more independence, including trying to ride her own bike instead of riding on the trailer when we go on bike rides (plus she is outgrowing the trailer!). Adaptive bikes get really pricey! Fortunately, her aunt Judy who is really knowledgeable about organizations which support the autism community, took the time to research an organization which would help us cover for a custom tricycle for Amelia. Judy told us about Ambucs, an organization focused on creating mobility and independence for people with disabilities. After working with Amelia's therapists and submitting a request to Ambucs, we have officially been placed on the National Ambucs Wish List to get Amelia a custom Amtryke! Ambucs helps families get a more affordable cost and start fundraising efforts.
Will you please consider helping us get to our goal of raising $915 to cover for the cost of an Amtryke plus shipping? Your donation is tax deductible and will go to National Ambucs Wish List. Note: You may choose not to cover for the cost of fees when you donate through here - just edit where it says "so 100% of your donation goes to the Charity".
Thanks a million!
