Did you know the 10th leading cause of death in America is suicide? How about that there were an estimated 1.4 million suicide attempts in 2017? That‘s like the entire city of Dallas, TX.
This year as I run my fourth marathon, I wanted to run for something bigger than me...I‘m teaming up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to raise money so they can continue to make an impact. AFSP raises awareness, funds scientific research and provides resources and aid to those affected by suicide.
When I first went back to work after having Axel we hired a nanny, Natalie, who was amazing with him. She was like a family member and it was so tough telling her we were moving to Indiana but being how great she was, Natalie found another family to work with in no time. I would send Christmas cards and kept in touch periodically via text to see how life was. A month after I sent out Elin’s birth announcements we got a letter from Natalie’s mom informing us that she could no longer cope with her depression and took her life a few months prior. I was shocked and heartbroken.
This is all too common - people we love are suffering and we are clueless.
My goal is to raise $50 for every mile I run. Please consider joining me in supporting this organization‘s lifesaving mission and programs.
