In the Northeast Iowa chapter of the American Red Cross, we installed 1,664 smoke alarms and made 434 homes safer in fiscal year 2017. In the coming year, our chapter will continue our work with home fire preparedness and mobilize the Sound the Alarm campaign that will help to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by installing FREE smoke alarms in our communities. Join us and be a part of this lifesaving effort by making a donation today.
The Challenge: Home fires kill seven people every day in the U.S. More than 60% fire-related deaths are in homes without working smoke alarms, and more than 5 million U.S. homes are without smoke alarm.
The Solution: Together with volunteers, fire departments and local community partners, we are installing FREE smoke alarms, replacing dead alarm batteries, helping families create escape plans and teaching people about fire prevention. On Saturday, April 28, we will be installing alarms in the Key West neighborhood. Sound the Alarm. Save a Life.
