Anthropos Arts was founded in 1998 to provide high-quality music education for low-income and at-risk students. We bring top professional musicians from diverse music genres to give free music lessons, workshops, and performance opportunities to students in middle and high schools that have high rates of poverty. That first year, we provided individual lessons for 15 students at 2 high schools. This year, we are serving 150 students at 16 middle and high schools and offer music workshops and master classes for many more students a year.
Through Anthropos Arts, students not only get instruction from the best musicians, they also receive mentorship and the opportunity to perform onstage in Austin’s best venues and events.
The benefits of our programs are profound, affecting many aspects of students’ lives: overall academic success, self-discipline, self-esteem, and a pathway to college. Over the past five years, 100% of our senior students have graduated from high school, and more than 80% enrolled in college on scholarships. For the last four years, 100% of our seniors enrolled in college. In fact, the academic success of our students equals or betters that of drop-out prevention and college prep programs.
Through our programs, Anthropos Arts contributes to the unique cultural landscape of Austin by promoting the artistry of our city’s most accomplished musicians, contributing to the diversity of music performed, and educating the next generation that will participate in and contribute to the arts.
Anthropos Arts connects at-risk youth with professional musicians, cultivating confidence, integrity, and life skills through musical instruction and mentorship.
