"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela
Barakat's mission is that we are dedicated to providing exemplary basic education in Afghansitan and Pakistan that advances literacy and increases access to secondary education, particularly for girls and women.
We envision a world in which the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan fully realize their human right to education in order to build healthy and peaceful communities.
Education is not only important for everyone because it is an entry point to other opportunities, but also because the survival and growth of society depends on it. Women's education can have ripple effects within a family and across generations. Investing in girls education is one of the most effective ways to reduce poverty. For every year that a girl goes to school she is all the more likely to send her own children to school, less likely to be a child bride and has a greater chance at earning more than her peers in the workplace.

Help us allow girls and women the opportunity to feel empowered by their education. Help us allow girls and women the opportunity to dream and imagine. Help us support the girls and women who will be the change some day.
Every year we have over 3,000 student pass through our doors. We have three schools in Pakistan, two schools in Afghanistan and over two dozen at home literacy programs, but that is still not enough. There are still more schools that need support and thousands of other students that still need our help. While we may dream of a time when we've lifted all of these women and children out of poverty and finally ended the poverty cycle for thousands of families, it remains just that, a dream.
We are hoping to expand our program in Afghanistan and start supporting another local school that is lacking in supplies because of a lack of funding. We have already started a scholarship program designed so that girls in rural Afghanistan who want to continue on to university but can't because their family can't afford to send them, can continue their education and become doctors, nurses, software engineers, or journalists to name a few of the dreams our students have. Right now we are currently supporting two young women studying to become doctors but we are hoping to expand the program to support even more girls. With your donation, you will become a part of our community of supporters that is helping to change the lives of thousands of children every year. As the saying goes "It takes a village to raise a child" and without of village of supporters our students would not have an opportunity to gain an education or even dream of going on to university.
