After I found my best friend and high school sweetheart dead of self inflicted gunshot, I didn’t know what to do or where to go. Instead of going to a therapist, as I probably should have done, I decided to take a series of road trips following the last band we saw together. I have decided to write a book on this experience — on the people I met and the perspectives I gained during that year. I hope this will add to the growing conversation on issues surrounding mental health, as well as provide the resources I wish I had while coping.
All proceeds made from this book will go towards Survivors of Suicide programs in the cities I visited last year (Milwaukee WI, Madison WI, New Orleans LA, St Louis MO, Cleveland OH, Pittsburgh PA, NYC, Iowa City IA, Boston MA, and Indianapolis IN). These programs are run by each local National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) chapter.
I’ve found my budget has delayed getting this book out. I’d like to change that. I am asking for help on the following services:
$400 — editing costs
$200 — I would like to buy a separate domain for this project so it is easier to find.
$600 — self publishing costs (barcode, ISBNs, copyrights, etc.)
If I raise more than what I need to publish, any additional funds will go directly towards helping these programs that so desperately need it.
