Empowerment Plan is working to deconstruct the stigmas behind homelessness. Our goal is to shed light on the stories of those we employ in hopes of permanently breaking the vicious cycles of homelessness and poverty. Each and every person we serve is resilient, intelligent, and dedicated to providing a better future for generations to come.
Join us as we explore what's behind the label.
Empowerment Plan is a Detroit based nonprofit organization focused on permanently elevating individuals from the generational cycle of homelessness through employment. We hire single parents - a majority of whom are low-income, minority, single mothers - from local shelters and provide them with on-the-job training as well as educational programming and supportive services. The individuals we hire are training in sewing and manufacturing to produce a durable coat that can transform into a sleeping bag or an over-the- shoulder bag. Since 2012, we have provided employment to 75 homeless individuals and distributed over 35,000 coats to those in need across the globe. Our current team consists of 39 previously homeless individuals, and this year alone we are on track to distribute 9,000 of our innovative coats.
A donation of any amount directly supports those we serve.
