The Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton provides a fun, safe and affordable place for young people, ages 6-18, when they are not at home or in school. We offer programs and services designed to build character and strengthen life skills. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
The Bluffton Club is projected to grow as the school population grows in the 12 schools who bus many of their students to the Club every day. Data regarding below-level early childhood reading performance correlated with low graduation rates, confirms that the Club’s academic success with emphasis on literacy, is the right focus for many of our young members.
Our Reading Program experience has further convinced us that afterschool reading intervention, as a supplement to the school district’s dedicated focus on literacy education, is a must for our Bluffton members who are reading below grade level. Many struggling readers desperately need help.
In order to serve more Bluffton children, we are expanding our reading program by building a Literacy Center of Excellence at the Boys & Girls Club of Bluffton. Their futures depend on how we address their literacy needs.
