Hi, I'm Chris Ocampo. As a teacher at Framingham High School, I have learned about the many challenges that our youth face everyday: Attending school while maintaining a job to help support their family, questioning what dinner would be on a daily basis and where it would come from, escaping environments of drugs and/or violence, etc. With all of these challenges comes a responsibility for us as educators to support our youth and help guide them to be hard-working, impactful human-beings in our society. When it came time to submit my name to run the marathon, I was hesitant because I viewed the race alone as such a vast challenge, especially since I have not run a marathon. Ever. However, I have learned that this challenge is nothing compared to what many of my students face on a daily basis. Challenges are meant to be conquered, and I am proud to say that I will be running the 2019 Boston Marathon and fundraise for the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest.
I am dedicating all of the blood, sweat, and tears that I will endure on this journey to all of my students: Joy, Cole, Junior, David, Miguel, Grace, Daniel, Charlotte, Jose, Timothy, Yael, Matheus, Nathaniel, Hannah, Carlos, Ryan, Ranulfo, Keneth, Kevin, Jadde, Nicholas, Kevin, Nicholas, Alysha, Gandhi, Fernando, Ana, Victoria, Yednelis, Milton, Iliana, Almustafa, Maslah, Matthew, Luis, Carly, Michael, Nathaniel, Matheus, Lesane, Shawn, Gabriel, Waldeney, Jhakel, John, Ricardo, Franco, Cole, Roqib, Mayara, Yarielis, Gabriel, Carlos, Kevin, Thiago, Selena, Ty, Luis, Nicholas, Odin, Abraham, Gabriel, Fiana, Jake, Brian, David, Trinity, Aaron, Aidan, Bruno, Miriam, Je'auna, Kevin, Arthur, Jolee, Nicole, and Charles. Here is some more information about the charity:
The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest serves more than 200 kids a day at our Framingham location, and more than 3,200 youth per year across all three of our locations (Framingham, Hudson, and Marlborough). Our low annual membership fee of only $25 per child provides impactful social, educational, physical, and cultural programming that enhances the developments of our members and prepares them to be responsible and productive members of our community.
We provide transportation from most of the Framingham schools to our Clubhouse, and stay open until 6 PM for the younger members and 9 PM for teenagers. On any given day, you can see our members working on their homework, playing a game in our gym, building a STEM project in the Tech Center, or doing arts & crafts with a volunteer group. There is always something new and exciting going on at the Club!
We are located in South Framingham where we serve a diverse population. We work to eliminate the financial barrier for families to access our programming and we rely on donors and sponsors to help us fund the remainder of our programmings. The actual cost per child is closer to $1,000 per year.
The funds raised through this campaign will go directly to our Framingham Clubhouse to support programming and safe transportation! To learn more about us visit www.bgcmetrowest.org or find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/BGCMetroWest/.
