"66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world" (UNICEF), while 200 million children suffer the effects of malnutrition.
Hunger has physical and psychological effects on children that makes learning difficult. Approximately 171 million children in developing countries are stunted by hunger by age 5. Stunting can affect a child’s cognitive abilities as well as their focus and concentration in school. As a result, stunted children are 19% less likely to be able to read by age eight. Children who are malnourished tend to have reduced mental capacity, have low attendance rate in school which most times affect their earning potential. This perpetuates the cycle of poverty in their family.
Conversely, good nutrition can be crucial preparation for good learning. iDream Inc. provides nutritious meals to children in school to ensure that children have all they need in order to reach their full potential. Our nutrition program provides breakfast and lunch for children in impoverished communities.
Help us to make a difference in a child's life today and give them a healthy start.
