The Potter Park Zoo Docent and Volunteer Association is raising funds to bring Dexter Cattle to Potter Park Zoo. Dexters are a heritage breed and are native to Ireland. They are smaller than most cattle and were imported to the United States in the early 1900s. Dexters do well in both hot and cold climates and can be managed outside year round. They are a dual purpose breed and can be raised for both meat and milk. Most Dexter cattle are black, however they can also be red or dun. These cattle will reside in the zoo's farmyard area and will allow the zoo team to educate visitors about the benefits of heritage animals. Please help bring this interesting species to Potter Park Zoo!
