On February 17th (the Saturday following Valentines day) come spread a different kind of love! Join Books Through Bars at our all-day pack-a-thon where we'll be preparing packages of books for folks incarcerated around the region.
Our collective goal is to send packages to 650 recipients over the course of 9 hours. (This is more packages than we usually send in one month!) At an average of $5 per package in postage and supplies, mailing 650 packages will cost BTB roughly $3300. We definitely need the hands-on volunteer power, but we'll also need help to cover these expenses! Donate here or START YOUR OWN TEAM TO FUND RAISE by clicking to the right of this column where it says 'fundraise for this campaign'! We're encouraging every participant to collect donations to help us cover the costs of this awesome event.
Stopping by the pack-a-thon to pack with us? Great! Thank you! We challenge each attendee to raise $30 before the event. This is a suggested donation only and no one will be turned away for lack of funds, but these donations would greatly help cover the costs of the postage for the packages you'll be preparing. Other helpful donations are full-size brown paper grocery bags, soft cover dictionaries (used or new), and anything on our amazon wish list. We won't be able to accept book donations during the day of the Packathon, so if you want to donate books other than dictionaries, please follow our book donation guidelines.
Unable to attend the event? In lieu of your presence, ask your community members, teachers, family, and friends to donate to this event! Folks can donate on this page or mail donations to:

Due to limited space, if you'd like to come with a group, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a time slot and make sure that we can accommodate you.
A little about BTB:
Founded in the late 1980s and formally incorporated as an organization in 2000, Books Through Bars was established to address the lack of educational and entertaining resources and programming made available to prisoners hoping to use the time of their imprisonment to effect positive change in their lives. By distributing free materials to prisoners, Books Through Bars facilitates prisoner well-being and education, thereby promoting successful community re-integration. We work to reverse the dehumanizing effects excessive punishment inflicts upon individuals, families and communities. At Books Through Bars we believe in the right to access information. We believe that books can be healing, transformative, and empowering. We believe that sharing books builds bridges across prison walls.
