Our aim is to gather as many people as possible to help fund the project. It is our attention to create awareness to the community in aiding the destitute in the smallest way possible. We are trying to create the change we want to see in the world, and hopefully leave a positive impact as a path for the younger generation to continue.
In 2012, we were invited to help rebuild a small community in Sierra Leone. This village, which was burned to the ground during the 11 year civil war in the country was largely inhabited by widows and children.
When we first started working here we didn't ask many questions about the background of the villagers. We knew they were poor and they needed our help. As they learned about us and found that several of us were Muslim, they made a plea.
They shared that they were Muslim and they have desperately needed a place to congregate and pray. The local imam shared pictures of their current mosque--old, windows shattered and the roof nearly collapsing. After their struggles, they needed this safe space.
This is a personal appeal, because everyone deserves a safe and comforting place of prayer. We are so blessed to have grand mosques within miles of where we live. The people of community desperately need this mosque to pray.
The cost to build the facility is $30,000. This will include a sturdy building, loudspeaker for a call to prayer and bathroom. We have four months to complete the work. Alhamdulillah we have just $6000 remaining to complete the masjid. Please help us meet our goal this Ramadan.
Please pass on word, any amount of donation is welcome. Your donation will not be tax deductible as this is a personal effort, but you will be doing a gracious deed for the people of our Ummah.
