There is not enough space to talk about all the incredible things that Camp No Limits does to help children, adults with limb loss and their families live healthy, productive and most of all HAPPY lives. This camp established itself in 2004 in Rome, Maine. At the time only a handful of campers were in attendance and the dream of creating a place that did not judge and fully accepted them was born. I have had the pleasure to work with the founder and director of the camp, Dr. Mary Leighton, OTR/L since that first camp. Fast forward to 2017 and there are now 10 camps across the country, as well as a snow camp and as of this year a teen camp. This camp provides education and empowerment through on-site prosthetists, occupational therapists and physical therapists. Breakout sessions that focus on learning skills and working towards goals like learning to tie a shoe, put hair in a ponytail, ride a bike and even run for the first time. Children have the opportunity to meet mentors and others just like them and hear their stories and share their concerns during support groups. Parents, teens, children and siblings have their own groups to go to. Along with the education and empowerment is also fun...and lots of it! Adventure afternoons that include rock climbing walls, mechanical bulls, zip lines, giant swings, arts and crafts, a talent show and even a dance! There has not been a single camp attended that new and returning campers and their families don't say during wrap-up on the last day "We are going to miss you....until next time...you're now family". Tears are shed from the overwhelming feeling everyone has of no judgement and complete freedom to be who you are amputees and non-amputees alike. Recently CNL was featured on NBC Nightly News during it's Maine location...check it out! This fundraiser is in hopes that we can help to send as many campers possible at no cost to their families. The cost to send one camper is $500, so you can imagine what that means for a family who wants to come and has to pay travel expenses and registration. This greatly helps offset some of their costs so that they can all experience, learn and grow together. Please help us to send at least 5 campers to one of our 10 camps for the 2018 year. Your donation in any amount is greatly appreciated!!
