We are running in loving memory of Derek Hodge, who we lost suddenly in August 2018 to suicide. Derek was a wonderful, kind hearted, razor-sharp intelligent and hilarious gentleman. We miss him dearly.
Derek was active in Vancouver’s running community for many years. He was a member of the Pacific Road Runners recreation running club and could often be found running road races in his rainbow propeller beanie and spraying water guns at fellow racers while cheering them on. Derek served many years as a board member of the Vancouver International Marathon Society. His family members have many fond memories of being with Derek at the Vancouver Marathon - whether it be helping him set up, hanging out in the VIP tent, or in the case of his baby brother Rob being roped into running the marathon.
In addition to running in honour and celebration of Derek’s life, we – Rob (Derek's brother), Kathy (Derek's sister-in-law), Myf (Derek's cousin), and Evan (Derek's friend and pseudo cousin-in law) – are running as “Team Hodgeysan” to raise money for the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). We aim to continue to conversation about mental health, reduce stigma, and help people get the support that they need.
Thanks for your support,
Team Hodgeysan (Rob, Kathy, Myf, and Evan)
Thank you for supporting mental health for all!
