The Batey Rehab Project operates in the Dominican Republic and seeks to uplift the nation’s poorest villages from extreme poverty, work to break the cycle of economic and gender inequality, and end the epidemic of intergenerational domestic violence and human trafficking. We work to achieve this goal through home construction for the most vulnerable families on the island as well as economic and educational programming for the women and girls in the communities we serve. And now we must secure a permanent home for our program before July to ensure the women and girls we serve, can continue to be supported over the long term! _________________________________________________________________________________________
The CASA AZUL project is a critical next step in the evolution of the Batey Rehab Project and the Batey Girls, our associated economic empowerment program.
We have until July 1 to secure the necessary funding to purchase the land where we currently operate and begin construction on a secure emergency shelter and long term housing for our women, girls and their children; the expansion of our Batey Girls workshop and visitors center to increase employment opportunities and manage our growing number of volunteers; and establish the necessary space to provide medical, educational, holistic and nutritional care for all our clients.
With little support from local law enforcement and a lack of government resources to assist victims of domestic violence and human trafficking or high-risk youth, our program provides a critical foundation for the most vulnerable to survive… and thrive. _________________________________________________________________________________________
