Dear Family and Friends,
Four hundred sixteen is a big number. It represents more days than in a calendar year and twice as many countries as there are in the entire world. The American Red Cross, through our Home Fire campaign, has saved 416 lives as a direct result of free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education services.
Although impressive, 416 is still just a number until you learn more about the lives this number represents. Four hundred sixteen represents the lives of two little girls in West Virginia and a couple living in our own Oregon backyard. Their lives were saved by Red Cross efforts.
What’s even more powerful is that this amazing initiative is something we all have the power to support. We’re just days away from our Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. smoke alarm installation events in Sutherlin (April 28), Madras (May 5) and Portland (May 12). I will be at each event and will hope to see you there, too. If you haven’t signed up to help yet, there’s still time at SoundTheAlarm.org. Together, we can make our communities safer and increase the number of lives saved beyond 416
As a proud Red Crosser, I am raising money for the Sound the Alarm effort. I have contributed $100, and my hope is to have that matched with gifts to reach $500. Please consider helping this important effort with a gift today. A $15 gift will sponsor one smoke alarm, or $30 will sponsor two, and so on. Any size contribution is generous of you, and will help me reach my goal!
