In February of 2000, Charles Patrick Stansbury lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. I was a second year law student and never had a chance to say goodbye to my father. Unbeknownst to all, the cancer was aggressive and the symptoms were thought to be related to other conditions. We didn’t know that my father’s condition has a six percent survival rate after five years and only fifteen to twenty percent are eligible for surgery. Pancreatic cancer is currently ranked as #3 on the list of deadliest cancers. It is anticipated that by 2020 it will be ranked as the #2 deadliest cancer.
At this time pancreatic cancer only receives 5% of funding for research. My goal is to raise $3,500.00 to donate to Project Purple. I’ve decided to run the New York Marathon to honor my father’s spirit and to honor all those who were taken too soon by pancreatic cancer. For my father who did not see me graduate law school, pass the bar, get married or meet his grandchildren. While the amount is small, even the smallest amount may help extend the life of a loved one. Please help me help others by supporting me as I run the New York Marathon. I appreciate any donation and for donations over $500.00 I will place your name or company logo on my shirt that I will wear during the marathon.
