CC International (CCI) has established the Hector Saroza Memorial Fund for Puerto Rico (in partnership with Social Good Fund*) to support families, schools, non-profits and animal shelters impacted by Hurricane Maria.
For over six years, our dear colleague and friend, Hector Saroza, has been an essential leader as our Puerto Rico Projects have had to adapt and expand as the island continues to recover. Through his love and dedication to serving others, Hector established critically important partnerships with Para la Naturaleza, Boy's and Girls Clubs, El Yunque National Forest and with the community in Yabucoa, one the hardest hit villages in Puerto Rico. Although we can never replace Hector, we can honor his life and continue his mission of helping the people of Puerto Rico recover and thrive.
In the aftermath of the storm and even as his health declined, Hector led our projects and inspired the admiration and spirit of service that has come to define our mission in Peurto Rico. He created this video appeal as the recovery efforts began:
Please help us to continue Hector's great work! Your donations will bring supplies and hundreds of volunteers to:
• Restore a fragile and badly damaged ecosystem.
The natural environment is a crucial part of the Puerto Rican culture and economy. CCI volunteers will help neighboring communities get back on their feet, assist in sustainable agricultural efforts, and support the process of reforestation and restoration of Puerto Rico's natural habitats. CCI Partner Para la Naturaleza will work with us to ensure our volunteers maximize their impact
• Assess the needs of residents and help them rebuild their homes.
Many homes in Puerto Rico are not covered by flood insurance and FEMA recovery funds only cover basic needs for repairs. CCI volunteers will provide labor for clean-up and rebuilding homes. We need to purchase hundreds of tools, supplies and materials that will directly benefit families as they continue the long recovery process
• Support Boy’s and Girls Clubs, Headstart Programs and local schools that have lost many resources, talent and volunteers with tutoring and facility repair
• Help families devasted by the storm get the supplies and support needed to get back into their homes.
CCI will recruit and bring volunteers to Yabucoa, considered ground zero where Hurricane Maria made direct landfall. Your donations will help residents, non-profits and schools get to the next crucial stage of recovery and we’ll need to supply the tools, materials and labor that are very difficult for many Puerto Ricans to secure on their own
