Hi Friends and Family,
Please help me help our fellow Americans in Puerto Rico as they recover from one of the most devastating storms in our history. This is a critical time in the island's recovery as it fights to remain in the spotlight as potential donor and media fatigue sets in.
CCI (Community Collaborations International), in partnership with Social Good Fund, is raising money to send over 500 volunteers to work on projects to help residents rebuild their homes and provide support to schools, Boys' and Girls' Clubs and animal shelters as well as restoring the fragile ecosystems that have been flattened by the storm and are vital to the Puerto Rican environment and economy.
I have volunteered for and worked with CCI since meeting them in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. I've led teams of motivated volunteers help residents gut and rebuild their homes, tutor kids in need, support organizations that help the homeless and revitalize damaged national parks and shoreline.
I'll be heading to Puerto Rico in January with our first team of volunteers and will identify families that we will support in 2018.
CCI makes the most of its donations by creating a triple bottom line of impact where communities get the help they need, understaffed and under resourced parks and estuaries make progress on restoration efforts and young people from over 100 colleges have a life-changing experience that helps develop their sense of pride in civic service.
Thanks very much for your support!
Here's some info on the work that CCI will be doing in Puerto Rico that your donations will support:
Hurricane Maria caused unprecedented damage to neighborhoods, infrastructure and the environment on the island of Puerto Rico. CC International will be recruiting over 500 volunteers and managing projects in December 2017 and Spring and Summer of 2018. Your donations will have a triple bottom line of support toward the efforts of volunteers and our Puerto Rican partners as they:
• Assess the needs of residents and help them rebuild their homes. Many homes in Puerto Rico are not covered by flood insurance and FEMA recovery funds only provide basic needs for repairs) CCI volunteers will provide much needed work for clean-up and rebuilding homes We need to purchase hundreds of tools, supplies and materials that will directly benefit families as they continue the long recovery process)
• Restore a fragile and badly damaged ecosystem. The natural environment is a crucial part of the Puerto Rican culture and economy CCI volunteers will which help neighboring communities back on their feet, assist in sustainable agricultural efforts, and start the process of reforestation and restoration of our natural habitats. CCI Partner Para la Naturaleza will work with us to ensure our volunteers maximize their impact
• Support Boy’s and Girls Clubs, Headstart Programs and local schools that have lost many resources, talent and volunteers with tutoring and facility repair
• Bring skilled labor to the recovery effort starting in Summer of 2018! One of the most challenging and expensive issues after a disaster is the lack of skilled technicians such as carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. CCI will recruit and bring skilled volunteers to Puerto Rico to help residents, non-profits and schools get to the next crucial stage of recovery and we’ll need to supply tools and materials that are going to be very hard for many Puerto Ricans to purchase
Your donations will help us provide hammers, rakes, shovels, paint supplies, mold remediation supplies (including hazmat safety gear), crow bars, food, shelter and building supplies such as dry wall, nails and other supplies.
We need 100 volunteers to raise $1,000 each or…200 volunteers to raise $500 each or…you get the picture!
Set up your own page, share your fav pic or selfie , set your goal and get your peeps to help us help our volunteers and let’s get send our fellow American’s a message of love and real tangible support!
