We strongly believe that daily, rigorous exercise is a key component to wellness. Your donations will help us expand our exercise programs at the Center. Thanks for your help!
About the Center
The Center For Living and Learning provides 24/7 residential care and job training to individuals with mental illness in a therapeutic environment with emphasis on the highest level of functioning and independent living.
The Center was founded in 1986 by The Lackey Family in an effort to provide a recuperative environment for their brother Donald. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Donald had been in several treatment programs across the country without any long-term improvement. His family decided to start a nonprofit close to home to develop a therapeutic setting for his recovery.
The Center officially opened its doors to other residents in 1988 and is now home to 26 people diagnosed with mental illness, two dogs (Stella and Kai), two horses (Millie and Cancel), and many doves and other wildlife. The Center provides 24/7 suppoort to residents through a multi-discplinary team of caring and creative people.
