Ainsley's Angels of America is super excited to be spreading awareness and smiles through activism and education!
Please take a moment to enjoy this note from Maura's Mom!
Hello to our wonderful friends and family. I am writing today on behalf of our sweet Miracle Maura May and our family in our quest to get our warrior a chariot.
As you are aware, our sweet girl has endured heart surgery, failure to thrive, Stage IV neuroblastoma, cerebral palsy, Weavers syndrome (leading her to currently be 5'7" and 140 pounds), a seizure disorder (leading to brain surgery), other medical obstacles as well as several orthopedic surgeries including spinal surgery last fall. Looking at Maura clinically it's hard to imagine that she would be so sweet, loving, forgiving, social and full of joy. But she is, and she loves to have music, dance, (especially Party in the USA), Dora, Mickey...school, church and Buddy Sports.
Maura's quest to do anything typical is always met with challenges. We have been fortunate that we have a van and have had modifications to the house to help with many of the day to day needs. She does enjoy to get out and about socially and while she has a great wheelchair, it's not the best all terrain mode of transportation. As mentioned above she does participate in Buddy Sports and even if she's coming to cheer her mom on at a finish line, participate in outdoor activities/festivities or have her sister take her for a walk, we would love to see her be able to have a running chair AKA a super cool chariot.
This is where you come in. We have been so blessed that over the years you all have helped us help several of the organizations that have done so much for our family over this 13+ year journey with Maura. That has touched us to be able to give back in a way we could never do alone.
Ainsley's Angels is another wonderful organization that we have gotten involved in over the past couple years. We have been able to utilize one of their chariots for a couple races that Kate has pushed Maura in. While it's been fabulous to have the opportunity. We would love to have one of our own to be able to do these events as well as everyday events with Maura (due to Maura's size sometimes it's difficult to get the right size...as well as not being able to run in between events pushing her).
Please help us to reach our goal to get Maura a chariot to give her an opportunity to fly like the wind (or at least as fast as Kate's little legs can go...) and our family to be able to participate in more of these typical family events. Asking for this is a little different than the fundraising we've done in the past, while you will be donating directly to the organization (yes it's tax deductible), by doing it through Maura's page it goes towards her goal of getting a chariot so it benefits her (us) directly. Once we're halfway to the goal they will start processing her chair. We hope to go even beyond the goal, because then others would benefit the way our family hopes to. All the money above the goal goes to Ainsleys Angels to keep fulfilling this wonderful mission.
I encourage you to look at some of the videos on the site and see what they're all about. I can tell you the first time we took Maura out of a chair after a race, she actually hit Kevin because she didn't want to stop. Whatever you can give is awesome, it all adds up, and if you can't just pray for us and for others that are trying to reach these goals.
Thank you for blessing us with your love and support and thank you for allowing us to bless you with Maura as she teaches us all something new everyday!
Prayers, love and hugs,
Miracle Maura May, Kate, Kevin and Maggie Kate Kane
